The Bootle Arms is a fabulous pub and restaurant in Melling, a leafy village just north of Liverpool.
Within minutes of being in this place, we felt like we’d known the staff forever. They are the loveliest, friendly bunch of people you’ll ever have the pleasure of meeting. The actual building itself is lovely too, with solid stone walls, wooden beams and an open fire.
To start, we had some Cheesy Nachos and Chicken Liver Paté. For our mains, we had Roasted Vegetable Jalfrezi (spiced mix of roasted potatoes, red onion and red & green peppers in a jalfrezi sauce, served with naan bread, a poppadum and mango chutney) and Chicken, Gammon and Mustard Pie (chicken breast and gammon in a creamy Dijon and whole grain mustard sauce, topped with a puff pastry lid, served with chips, peas and gravy.) Everything tasted delicious. The pie is definitely something you need to try.
We had a fabulous evening thanks to the people, and more importantly, the food.
You have to go.
